GKids has set an Aug. 7 release date for “Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet,” the animated feature produced by Salma Hayek-Pinault.

“The Prophet” will debut in Los Angeles and New York on its opening weekend and then expand.

The story portrays the unlikely friendship between a young mischievous girl and an imprisoned poet. The film has distilled the 26 poems in Gibran’s 1923 classic into a collection of eight animated films from eight directors.

The film includes the voices of Hayek-Pinault, Liam Neeson, John Krasinski, Frank Langella, Alfred Molina and Quvenzhane Wallis. Directors include Tomm Moore (“Song of the Sea”), Joan Gratz (“Mona Lisa Descending a Staircase”), Joann Sfar (“The Rabbi’s Cat”), Bill Plympton (“In Your Face”), Paul and Gaetan Brizzi (“The Hunchback of Notre Dame”), Michal Socha (“Chick”) and Mohammed Harib (“Freej”).

Producers are Hayek-Pinault, Clark Peterson, Jose Tamez and Ron Senkowski. Participant Media is financing along with Doha Film Institute, FFA Private Bank, MyGroup Lebanon, Financiere Pinault and Code Red Productions.

The film debuted at Cannes last year and screened at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Emily Joins “Animal Crackers” + First Look

Screen Daily is reporting that Emily Blunt has joined the voice cast of “Animal Crackers“. She will voice Zoe Huntington and John will voice her on-screen husband Owen Huntington. The first production still was also released which features John and Emily’s characters. We have added the still, poster and on set images shared by the director in our gallery.

Animal Crackers will also feature the previously attached Danny DeVito, Sylvester Stallone and Ian McKellen.

Krasinksi will play Blunt’s on-screen husband Owen Huntington, who along with his wife inherits a ramshackle circus and a mysterious box of Animal Crackers biscuits that turns people who eat them into animals.

Scott Christian Sava and Tony Bancroft co-direct and Sava co-wrote the script with Dean Lorey. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2016.

“When Emily and John came in and performed their first scenes of the movie together… it was magic,” said Sava.

“I can think of no other way of describing what they brought to the film. We had to literally go back and re-storyboard the sequences because they took us to places we never dreamed. Owen and Zoe came to life when Emily and John spoke”

Sava produces for Blue Dream Studios alongside George Lee and Marcus Englefield of Storyoscopic Films, Jamie Thomason and Leiming Guan.

Mary Elizabeth Talks “The Hollars”

Mary Elizabeth recently talked with Collider about her new project and also briefly mentioned “The Hollars” and working with John:

What was it like to be directed by John Krasinski for The Hollars?
WINSTEAD: It’s a small part. I was actually shooting The Returned, so I just went and showed up on his set for a couple of days, on a break from [the show]. It was a very small part, but super fun. He’s a sweetheart, and I was really happy just to get to work with him. He was just so full of excitement and passion. He was really lovely, and he wrote a really nice letter to me, asking if I would do it. I had met him before, but only briefly, so I didn’t actually know him. But, I was super happy to be amongst that really great cast. It was a great script on that, so it was fun.
